SKIN FRESHENER HERBS

Here at Edna we are often asked about the 55-herb blend used in the Skin Freshener.  In fact, many new customers ask, “Is it just Witch Hazel?”  To which we patiently shake our heads in wonder.  Who could even compare Witch Hazel with Skin Freshener? So, we’ve decided to share some information about a few of our favorite ingredients in the herbal blend that make this toner so powerful.

Witches Broom:  Lightens the skin and reduces any swelling.

Pau D’Arco:  Reduces oil production in the skin and can reduce hirsutism.

Lilli of the Valley:  Combats and prevents scars.

Strawberry leaves:  Repairs Sun Damage.  Contain’s Salicylic acid which removes dead skin cells and fights acne.

Century Plant:  Prevents the formation of pus or acne conditions.

Cat’s Claw:  Repairs DNA and combats free-radicals.

Bogbean: Reduces glandular swelling.

Boneset: Lessens skin irritations and subdues skin diseases. It also removes heat from the skin.

Sage: Combats greasy skin by regulating sebum production, treats acne, is an antioxidant, anti inflammatory, antimicrobial and antiviral.

Green Tea:  Promotes elasticity in the skin’s tissue, reduces sun damage, and helps with rosacea.

Calendula:  Increases oxygen and blood flow, helps the body grow new tissue.  Traditionally it is used to treat burns bruises and cuts as well as the minor infections they cause.  Also prevents dermatitis.

The list goes on and on, but some of the other ingredients you may have at least heard of are Mistletoe, Dandelion, Yellow Dock, Flax flowers, Ginger root, Uva Ursi, Juniper berries, Tea Tree, Pumpkin leaf, and Parsley.  The benefits of this herbal blend are endless but all of them are diruretic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial or in other ways dramatically healing.

The other key ingredient in the Freshener that most people undervalue is the sugar.  Sugar, while horrible for your insides, sugar is an amazing healer.  If you are ever out of Neosporin try packing  the cut with sugar and putting a band aid on it.   You’ll be shocked at how quickly it heals – and without a scar!   Or the next time you burn your tongue sprinkle it liberally with sugar and wait a few minutes.  It really takes the sting out.  Sugar really should be marketed for it’s amazing healing aspects.

Skin Freshener should be used after Cleansing Cream, but it does have other uses.

  • Apply liberally to 2 cotton rounds and rest them on the eyelids for 5-15 minutes.  It will reduce puffiness and ease tired or overworked eyes.
  • Apply to cuts, burns or bruises to reduce swelling and infection.
  • Can be used on it’s own to clean up after sports/dance to cleanse and close open pores and to reduce odor and stiffness from sweat.
  • Can also be used on the feet to reduce odor and to subdue the sweat glands in the feet.
